JBR, Ninso, AEON, Mat Soba!

Today I woke up late because I finally get to sleep worry free!

My husband wanted to find a new lamp for our working room so we head to JBR Shah Alam. There were 2 outlet from different locations. He managed to find the lamp he want and I got cleaning brush for toilet and it was only RM2 and Ninso.

Speaking of Ninso, it’s another RM2 shop that uses yellow as part of its brand identity. But what really caught my attention was their jingles — they come in different genres! While browsing, I noticed the playlist didn’t loop back to the same song we heard when we first walked in. My guess is they’re using an AI music generator (maybe something like Suno) to create all these tracks. Honestly, compared to that, AEON’s “Hurry hurry, hari Khamis!” doesn’t sound so bad anymore!

This song haunts us everytime we shop at AEON or Daiso

Also, my body felt so weak probably because of my effed up sleeping schedule, I got super hungry eventhough we already had out lunch. I felt light headed, stuffy and wanted to sleep. So my husband brought us to AEON to get some light meal there. I had okonomiyaki unagi and my husband got egg and salmon sushi. We also got peach strudel for out dessert.

Later on, we grabbed coffee at La Boheme CafĂ© and took a slow stroll through AEON’s bread section. I told my husband my sourdough starter wasn’t working (apparently bleached flour was the culprit) and he just gave me that “I told you so!” look. So off we went to the supermarket to grab a bag of organic unbleached plain flour (lesson learned).

Then we wandered into the noodle aisle and spotted soba noodles for dinner. My husband got all hyped up again. He’s been calling himself Mat Soba ever since our Japan trip. He went there all excited to try ramen, but somehow soba left the bigger impression on him.

Then we headed home and took our showers. My husband got busy installing the lamp he found at JBR, while I started prepping dinner. He was in charge of making tamago, and I took care of boiling the soba noodles. We had dinner with Roro doing his best to supervise (a.k.a. disturb) us, of course.

Notice something?

After dinner, I picked up my sourdough starter project again and then went back to researching my dream oven before finally calling it a night.

Halo my name is Ween!

 Today’s a Townhall day!

I woke up late today because I’ve been rushing deadline. I slept around 2am and still haven’t recovered from my Tuesday over time! If people gonna say ‘so not worth it’, please pay my salary because not everyone is blessed with a job that can pay their rent!

I start my day with designing icons for client’s website, then for lunch Dick, Jay and I went to Pavillion Damansara to have lunch at Madam Kwan. This is probably the last time we get to talk about movies and Japan. The we grab coffee at San Fransisco before head back to office.

one of my favourite Cantonese beef kuey teow!

Later before 4pm, everyone is preparing for Townhall, we all changed clothes because the theme is Halloween. During townhall, there was announcement, quiz and announcing best dress (our group didn’t win) then we have makan makan and it was nasi ulam and nasi kerabu!

I mean, if we win with this printed mask then the system is rigged!

I love how we have fun and have healthy meal at the same time!

I couldn’t stay late because I need my rest so I head back home and I had a second round of dinner with my husband at Sukiya Tokyo Bowl. I missed their Teriyaki Chicken Mayo Ontama Don!

Then we head back home and I played with Roro before I go to sleep.

I slept for 4 hours

I rushed for 10 animated videos (adaptations) and settled everything by 3am

I managed to wake up at 7am and leave the house after 8am. On the way to LRT station I decided to get Kopiko ais from the kopi truck so I can cope with my tiredness due to lack of sleep. I just can’t fast when I had less than 4 hours of sleep. I hope I can fight for it one day, but today is coping for the changes - many days of public holidays and annual leaves, I have to quickly catch up with work at office.

As I reached to office building, I grabbed another coffee, hot Americano and chicken curry puff. As I sat at my place, I quickly go through social media briefs and start drafting few ideas after searching inspirations on the internet.

Today I played Twenty One Pilots new album and I was stuck with the song Cottonwood.

I subscribe Manga Plus deluxe (that’s RM20+ per month!!) so that I can read Jujutsu Kaisen. I only watched the anime, I tried to read the manga when it was release but I got commitment issue back then (doomscrolling on tiktok addiction). Now that I have one month to access old episodes, I hope to catch up with Sasuke Retsuden.

The social media are still bombarded with the Form 2 boy stabbed Form 4 girl to death, and the death of Palestinian journalist Saleh al-Jafarawi.

While sleep deprived I sometimes browsing oven on shopee, I plan to get it for my own birthday gift. This adult wants to bake again so bad.

During lunch I ordered Ayam Geprek from abang nasi campur tepi jalan. Got chicken breast and yay for that because recently I stop deciding which part of chicken I want and let them decide for me. So to review; it was salty (omelette and rice)! and the sambal was just spicy without any flavour.

I told Dick and Jay I wanna have lunch with them tomorrow since this week is Jay’s last week at the place we work now.

After lunch I got myself hot mocha (copium) and it still didnt make me feel refresh. I thought once I settled some social media carousel posts, I can pack my bag and head back home to rest and recharge. But I was stopped by my art director and need to wait for her to share me KV so I can animate it. I’m still waiting while typing this lol!

I actually reached home ay 7:20 took a nap while being disturbed by Roro. Husband is in charged for cooking dinner. He made tomyam daging with omelette and rice. Delicious dinner especially when your husband made it for us.

Window shopping at Watsons before going back home.
These are the brand that some hotels in Japan use for toiletries. Love the smell!

While eating he made us watch a chinese lecture talking about civilization.

I’m still trying edit videos from my Japan and Sarawak trip and it’s hard when you dont have a story line.

I’m still waiting for my colleague and thinking what to have for lunch tomorrow (maybe spaghetti!)

My first attempt at freezing leeks

Yesterday I picked up some leeks at the grocery store. It instantly brought me back to my recent trip to Japan, where I noticed scallions and leeks everywhere - tiny containers of pre-cut scallions in the freezer section of konbini.

It felt like the Japanese add scallions or leeks into their dish alot.

I’ve always loved both scallions and leeks, but I realized I’d never really taken the time to understand the difference. Scallions (or green onions) are slender, with a sharper bite and are often used raw as a garnish. Leeks, on the other hand, are thicker, milder, and sweeter—best when cooked slowly to bring out their soft, oniony flavor. They’re both green, aromatic, and uplifting in flavor, yet they play different roles in cooking.

So I bought one and I searched on how to store leek longer in the freezer.

So I bought a small size leek and looked up how to store it properly. Apparently, leeks can be frozen if you slice them first, which means I’ll have them on hand much longer than I thought.

Of course, I couldn’t resist checking out a few leek recipes. This one caught my eye:

Just leek and oyster sauce - so simple, yet it looks absolutely delicious!

This is my very first attempt at freezing leeks. Hopefully, I’ll be able to use them soon. In fact, I already added some into my Ikan Masak Taucu which I forgot to take a picture!

One more kitchen trick learned, and many more to go.
